as Education monitoring team visits Mkpat Enin, Oruk Anam LGAs.
In a bid to instill discipline and focus amongst Teachers during/after terminal examinations and while marking scripts, the Akwa Ibom State Government under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel has frowned at Teachers attitude to work during terminal examinations, warning them against unauthorized vacations before official Closing dates of public primary and Secondary Schools.

The Joint Education Monitoring team of the Governor's office and State Secondary Education Board gave the warning on Thursday; December 12, 2019, while visiting Schools in Mkpat Enin and Oruk Anam Local Government areas for spot-Checks.
At Mkpat Enin local Government area, only 3 Students were present in Community Secondary school Nya Odiong, while no Teacher was spotted as at 7.47am when the morning devotion was supposed to be held. At Community High School-Ikot Essen Akpan Ntuen, less than 5 Students and 1 Teacher(not well dressed ) was found in school as at about 8.05AM.

With the presence of only 3 Students at Community High School Ekparakwa as at about 8.16am, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet who was the leader of the monitoring team, proceeded to Community Secondary Commercial School-Ikot Afanga, where she expressed disappointment with the Present of only 1 Teacher as at about 8.30am. Without waiting, the Governor's Aide on Education monitoring gathered the Students for an interactive session, after a brief morning devotion.

 In her usual way, Etiebet advised them on the important of Education while warning against cultism and other social vices capable of truncating their bright future. The Governor's Aide while administering oath of good conduct to Students, read out phone numbers where they can report all education related challenges directly to her office.

The team which also had Mr. Emmanuel Akpan representing the Chairman, State Secondary Education Board, also visited St. Alban's Primary School - Inen/ Nnung Okubo, Pax Christi College - Inen Ikot Obiom, Madonna Secondary commercial School - Obo Ntanya, Southern Annang Comprehensive Secondary School - Ikot Okoro and Community High School - Mbiakot, all in Oruk Anam local Government area.

In the aforementioned schools, the Education monitoring team met with Principals and Heads of Schools, where they were advised them on the need to always mark examination scripts together in the Staff rooms where Teachers will be focused. Discouraging Teachers from taking vacations when schools have not been officially closed, Etiebet who took time to review Teachers time book and all other record books, instructed Principals query erring Teachers.

The representatives of the Governors who called on teachers to see themselves as role models, assured that no erring teacher will go unpunished.
While interacting with Students and members of Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of some schools, the team which discovered that some Principals were taking hidden charges from students, promised to carry out thorough investigations, while calling on parents and other members of the public to always report all levies imposed on their wards and children to the state Government .

Head Teachers and Principals of Schools with dilapidated structures and other pressing needs were advised to address letters of request(with photographs) to appropriate quarters for immediate actions.

From all indications, the monitoring exercise will be a continuum up until December 20th when all Government schools in the state will vacate for Christmas holiday.
